Much like the socialist society it’s themed after, everyone at this Zedong-era Chinese restaurant is equal, from the party of 12 to the lonely diner in the corner. Even the staff is like family, happily obliging requests like “can I have this vegetarian,” and “beef instead of chicken?” There is no host to seat customers – just walk in, grab a menu and take a seat. Prices are geared for the working-class diner, with dollar egg rolls, $5 to $8 appetizers and no entrée over $12. And just when you think there has to be a string … the food rivals the best Chinese restaurants Los Angles has to offer, easily butting heads with chains like PF Chang’s. Highly recommended: the Sesame & Yam Beef (or chicken, or fish…). Wei renmin fuwu!
