Featured Restaurant: Lola’s
The Hollywood Scene Turned on its Head
This small, intimate, underrated place on Fairfax isn’t quite on the same plane of renown as some LA restaurants of the same (or lower) caliber. What this means for you is no ridiculous wait for a table, no pompous arrogance, and fewer peacocking douchebags to make it seem “Hollywood.” Lola’s has a fun, eclectic menu, an accommodating, down-to-earth wait staff, and a warm, romantic – OK, let’s say downright sexy – attitude. The Lady Marmalade appetizer combines a sushi-esque crab and avocado tower with yummy tortilla chips, the Lola’s Mac & Cheese is a prize winner, and entrees like the Once in a Blue Moon (shrimp on pesto angel hair) are a nice song and dance for the taste buds. And let’s not forget the most important part – the long list of Lola’s specialty martinis, including the limey Pulp Fiction, the blood-orange True Blood, and the savory, bleu-cheese-stuffed-olive adorned Do Me Dirty. Drink and beer recommendations are on the food menu for fans of pairing. Weekly drink specials, live bands, DJs and other activities keep the calendar busy. And tip your waitresses.
